OEM BMW Radiators
Car radiators keep an engine from running too hot. They keep it running cool enough, in fact, to prevent overheating. How a car radiator works generally, however, is somewhat more complicated. The process inside your BMW starts with coolant. As your engine runs, it creates a lot of heat, and the liquid captures it as it flows through a radiator hose and back and forth between an inlet and outlet. A radiator cap pressurizes the coolant while it travels, which helps it take on more heat than it could uncompressed. After it absorbs all the heat it can, your radiator's exterior fins expel it, and a fan disperses it into the air nearby. The result: your engine keeps working as best it can, for as long as it can. Sometimes, though, a radiator can go bad, and when it does, it usually causes a few issues.
What Are the Signs of Radiator Problems?
They include fin damage, HVAC malfunctions, mucky coolant, weird engine noises, the sweet, syrupy odor of ethylene glycol, and engine overheats and shutdowns. If you suspect radiator failure, look at your temperature gauge. If your engine's running hot, its needle will tell you. Then, put your BMW through a comprehensive inspection. If the results indicate that it's radiator replacement time, avoid the aftermarket; a genuine OEM radiator will fit your car or SUV best.
